"Ravens are thought of as the harbingers of death.
This comes from medieval times when they were often the first scavengers to be seen on the battlefield. They’re actually beautiful birds up close with iridescent feathers but they’ll never shake off their links with the dark side. Even the collective noun for ravens is an ‘unkindness’.
The raven’s spiritual home is the Tower of London, where it was believed that ‘the tower and the monarchy will fall if ever the ravens leave’.
My ravens have gathered beneath their spiritual home to decide the fate of a poor soul. Armed with a spear, axe, scythe and a pitchfork, they are unaware that they have been infiltrated by an imposter, a Puffin. Also known as a clown bird, he is ‘armed’ with a black balloon in keeping with the sombre occasion" - Angus
